The hall was filled with an excited and expectant audience on Thursday evening as everyone awaited the start of the annual Autumn Concert.

A beautiful rendition of Faure’s “Pavane” by the flute choir (Gabriella Gordon, Phoebe Ollerenshaw and Miss Davidson) opened the performance which was followed by beautiful, moving and well-rehearsed pieces by the school’s variety of music ensembles. The orchestra played a traditional “Allegro” movement composed by Bach while the string ensemble also performed from the classical repertoire with Vivaldi’s “Winter”. The audience were also treated to the music of Lois Heslop, Beatrice Richmond, Daisie Sitlani, Maya Teufel Tarlton and Isabella Thompson, performing as the Chamber Ensemble on strings and piano. They played “Let Winter Go” which had been excellently arranged by Daisie.

Five choirs performed throughout the night. First up were all the Year 7 girls singing “When I Grow Up” and later the Lower Chamber Choir which sang “Juke Box Saturday Night”. We also heard the Lower School Choir perform a rousing rendition of “Circle March” which included the girls splitting into 8 separate groupings, creating a unique aural effect. The Senior Choir sang Mason’s “Nearer my God, to Thee” which much professionalism and beauty and even the staff choir joined the concert, performing “Is This the Way to Amarillo”.

The evening also saw the accapella group, AccA, sing a cover of “Closer” by Chainsmokers and Cecilia Ettedgui in Year 11 play the jazz-inspired “Prelude 1” by Gershwin. To close the concert, the Jazz group performed a show-stopping version of “Feeling Good” with Nour Mansour on solo vocals.

With over 100 performers taking part, as well as the Music Leadership Team (Chloe Coleman, Bonnie Collington, Lois Heslop, Nour Mansor, Jessica Moskalevitch, Kate Sharpe and Daisie Sitlani) helping backstage too, it was an evening not to be forgotten and a wonderful demonstration of the musical talent of girls (and staff!) from all year groups.
