Academic flourishing at FHS was celebrated with gusto yesterday when the Academic Ambassadors and I hosted a Celebration Tea to congratulate all of the entrants of the 2024 Academic Ambassadors’ Essay Competition. This competition, which ran in the second half of the Autumn Term, was open to girls from Year 7 to the Lower Sixth, providing a great opportunity for girls to stretch their academic horizons and explore an area in depth.
A variety of questions were devised for students to investigate, ranging from the sciences to the humanities. We were looking for interest in the chosen subject, originality, creativity, and solid focus on the question. The overall winner of the competition was Tally N-S in Year 11, with Highly Commended going to Phoebe S (LVI), Lara P (Year 10), and Sophia D (Year 7).
Yesterday’s Celebration Tea was an opportunity to congratulate every girl who went the extra academic mile by researching and writing an essay, and it was also a lovely occasion for the entrants to exchange ideas and receive their certificates of participation from Mrs Haydon, as well as to enjoy some special refreshments.
