Over the summer, Ms Shevah established two Lower School Writing Prizes: a Book Review Prize and a Creative Writing Prize. There were twenty five entries for the Book Review Prize, with some creative, visually appealing and very eloquent reviews of a wide range of books. The winner, with an articulate and compelling review of ‘Gone’, is Layla S, and the runner-up with her enthusiastic review of ‘Divergent’ is Lauren F, both in Year 8.

There were fewer entries to the Creative Writing Prize, but the judging was more difficult. Should the entry that was more poised, confident and had more narrative control win? Or the piece with buoyant energy, sparkling vocabulary and raw talent? Ms Shevah needed a second opinion from another judge, Dr Richards, but in the end, the prize went to the piece with the authorial control of pace, tone, diction and structure. This year’s Lower School Creative Writing Prize winner is Eden A, and the runner-up is Iman E-S for her piece that sparkled. Well done to both Year 8 students, and to all those who entered. The runners up receive certificates and an Emotion Thesaurus to help with their writing, and the winners receive an Emotion Thesaurus, a Setting Thesaurus and a ‘Storyteller’ mug. Well done to all and keep writing!
