Day 1
The Year 10 Geographers had an early start last Wednesday (1st July) as the GCSE groups got on the train to Penrith at 8:22 in the morning. Once we arrived in the beautiful Lake District, we drove to Grasmere for our first hike. The ascent was tiring and steep, but simultaneously scenic and stunning, as we followed Easedale Valley up to the tarn and corrie. During our hike we thankfully had many breaks to admire the geographical features, including a roche moutonnee, hanging valley, moraine and much more. We were very fortunate to see these glacial landforms first hand. Once we arrived at Blencathra Field Centre centre we had an informative lesson.
Day 2
We began with a lesson before we set off to Penrith to answer important questions and fill out surveys and questionnaires for our Geography coursework. We focused on both the lovely town and the modern New Squares development, the latest addition to Penrith, which includes new chain stores. However, we found this area rather empty in terms of shops. Once we arrived back from the centre after our long day in Penrith, we had an additional lesson to gather our information from the interesting day out.
Day 3
Once again we put on our walking boots and embarked upon another hike up a large hill: this time, Catbells. The hike was steep in parts, with a few ‘false summits’, but it was definitely worth it! When we reached the top, there were incredible views overlooking the beautiful landscape including two big lakes: Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite. Soon it was already time to leave this lovely place.
