Year 8 were treated to a fascinating assembly on Monday by Gazel, a Year 9 pupil, in which she described her recent family trip to Saudia Arabia for pilgrimage (‘hajj’, in Arabic). Gazel described why Muslims seek to go on ‘hajj’ and what was involved. She shared pictures of the beautiful ‘ka’ba’ which is the building at the centre of the Masjid-al Haram in Mecca. Gazel emphasised that this is a place where different people of different backgrounds, races, economic situations, age and abilities can all gather to worship the one God, Allah. She finished by describing the ‘beauty’ of her trip and received a number of questions from the audience who were captivated by her presentation.
