Striding across the Millennium Bridge under the bluest of skies was a jolly start to a hugely productive morning at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Year 5 and 6 are working with actors who make up the core company of the theatre. They have played a myriad of Shakespearean roles and were able to bring their experiences of performing in such a unique space, alive. We enjoyed special access to the theatre and learnt about its history and what it would have been like to have been a ‘groundling’ watching the action from the rowdy 1 penny ticket floor.

After seeing the theatre, we went to the rehearsal spaces that the actors use, and worked on scenes from Julius Caesar. Learning about how Shakespeare is directed and performed brings a totally new learning angle to the girls. It brings the poetry off the page and into action that hurtles along apace! Year 5 wowed us with their performances of Calpurnia pleading with Caesar not to go to the senate. Graves yawned and ghosts shrieked and a thoroughly good time was had by all!
