On Wednesday, Years 4, 5 and 6 Foresters ventured to their beloved Norbury Park for the first trip of the Summer Term. Our last trip, before Easter, saw stark foliage with limited signs of wildlife. In contrast, Wednesday greeted us with blue skies, golden sunshine and nature showing us how wonderful the British countryside is this time of year.
During the trip the girls used carving knives in order to learn the art of whittling wood. Woodcraft is a cornerstone to the Foresters’ curriculum, and it was brilliant to see the girls create wands, spears, and bow and arrows throughout the day. Much to the dismay of everyone, Mr Cilveti had been kidnapped somewhere in the woods. The girls were tasked with saving the super Spaniard but could only succeed by whittling the perfect wooden props. Once the Señor had been saved from his naughty captors, the girls were able to celebrate with hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Of course, the Foresters were excited to learn that the Junior School has been Highly Commended for its innovative FHJS Foresters programme in the Muddy Stilettos Schools Awards in the Best Experiential Learning category. The Foresters are certainly going from strength to strength.
A brilliant day out with all teachers and girls returning to school with beaming smiles.
Mr Russell, Year 6 Class Teacher
