On Thursday, Years 1, 2 and 3 ventured into the forest for their half termly Francis Holland Foresters trip. A great reminder of their ‘Best Experiential Learning’ commendation through the highly acclaimed Muddy Stilettos Schools Awards that we Foresters are very proud of!

They were greeted with a beautifully sunny day and were pleased to see lots of greenery that had started growing through since their last trip. Year 1 spent the day crafting, making natural wood cookie necklaces, weaving friendship bracelets, and creating their own natural bird art to coincide with their classroom art topic on birds. Year 2 became explorers, delving into their history topic on ‘Famous Explorers’. They found themselves stranded on a desert island and had to make their own shelters and fishing equipment to survive. In the afternoon they had to use their map reading skills and navigational language to move around the forest.

Year 3 hosted their own Ancient Greek Olympics, using their knowledge from their history lessons on Ancient Greece. They whittled their own javelins and competed in a variety of sports including discus, long jump and javelin throwing. They also built their own natural ‘Minotaur Mazes’ using items they could find in the forest. A great day out was had by all, with all students building on their teamwork, communication, resilience skills and improving their growth mindsets.

Well done to all!
