On Monday 21st June, Year 3 were hired by the Kew constabulary, to investigate a terrible crime that had taken place within the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse.

A very expensive and valuable plant had been stolen from the Temperate House at Kew Gardens by an unknown culprit, and it was up to the Year 3 girls to use the evidence and clues on hand to solve the mystery. Through this exciting and interactive activity, they were able to identify the location and characteristics of a temperate climate and recognise the importance of plants as medicine, food and products.

Whilst half of the class were busy solving the crime scene investigation, the other half had the opportunity to discover the rest of Kew Gardens. Despite the rather wet weather forecast, the girls thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Gardens and particularly liked the Princess of Wales Conservatory and the Rock Garden to name just a few. Having seen and learnt so many new things on their trip, the only thing the girls had to complain about on the coach journey back, was that they wished they had more time there and could stay at Kew Gardens for longer.

After such a lovely and successful trip, we can only hope that it will not be too long before we’re back among the flowers and cacti once more.
