On the evening of Tuesday 17th January, eight Year 13 Drama A Level students performed their naturalistic performances to a visiting examiner as their final piece of coursework. The Carmel Hall Studio Theatre was full to bursting and the actors impressed the audience with their nuanced and sophisticated performances.

Two vastly contrasting extracts were performed: one from Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf? and the other from God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza. Both groups rehearsed their extracts inspired by Russian practitioner, Konstantin Stanislavski, who was famous for developing the naturalistic performance technique known as the ‘Stanislavski Method’. The girls learnt that his system enables actors to use their personal history in order to express authentic emotion and create richer, deeper characters, and each student was immensely successful in applying his methods to their role.

Congratulations to all the girls who performed!
