This term, we have had many opportunities to take part in Maths Challenges where many of us received certificates. In September, all the LVI mathematicians took part in the Senior Maths Challenge, which tests problem solving and critical thinking beyond the standard curriculum, offering challenges that range from beginner to expert levels. This offers an opportunity to gain certificates in either the bronze, silver or gold categories, whilst also rarely being offered an opportunity to proceed to more rounds of the challenge depending on your performance. At FHS, a large amount of the girls who took part won certificates across the bronze and silver categories alongside one talented student who achieved a gold certificate.

A few girls also took part in the Maths Olympiad, which is a very prestigious challenge. The girls managed to get certificates – one distinction certificate and a few merits – which is an amazing accomplishment. Many girls also participated in the Maths Competition, requiring critical thinking and problem-solving skills just like the Maths Olympiad. A lot of the girls that took part received merits.
