This week saw the final performances for the Year 10 GCSE devised exam pieces on the stimulus of ‘Creative Perspectives on Climate Change’.

Yesterday evening, 24 actors in Year 10 performed 15-20 minute devised group pieces on a range of issues, varying from overfishing to loss of habitat. Their scripts were honed and developed over a number of months, following research into science and current affairs. Pupils studied the practitioner Brecht and his genre of ‘Epic Theatre’, which encourages and inspired the audience towards sociopolitical change. This forms part of the wider school initiative: Creative Perspectives on Climate Change in collaboration with Cape Farewell, an interdisciplinary project focussed on creatively raising awareness and finding solutions to climate change.

We were so impressed with how our actors conducted themselves with such maturity on the day, working as a team and ensuring an exciting performance for the audience. We were also pleased to see such a creative response to the stimulus, with pupils writing using a wide range of theatre methods to raise awareness including comedy, placards/ signs, archetypes, multi-media, multi rolling, protest scenes, choreography and strong characterisation.

Congratulations to all involved in such a wonderful evening! We are really proud of what you have achieved.
