The Year 9 visit to the Natural History Museum on Friday 3rd October was an interesting and enjoyable trip which I found really informative.

I learnt many new things about the Earth and its natural hazards. What I found most interesting was how Pele’s hair was formed from tiny pieces of lava: it is spun by the wind into volcanic glass! Also, I learnt what you and I would need to have in an ‘earthquake packÂ’ in an emergency: food, water, notebook, blanket and a first aid kit.

I found out that gophers survive pyroclastic flows by staying in underground burrows! Even though we did not manage to try the seismo-shake simulator to experience what an earthquake would really feel like (it was out of order), the trip was great fun.
