There has been a wealth of creative activities experienced this week for senior students as part of World Book Day fun. As school closure has sadly taken away some of our more in-person experiences, the English department have still found ways to celebrate reading this week. Life Skills on Wednesday was dedicated to celebrating the day and you will see some of the amazing submissions from the students here from that session. From innovative ‘extreme reading’, to poetry crafted only from book titles, FHS girls have embraced the challenges set by the English department. Remember you can submit your entries up to 4pm on Friday so there is still time to enter! As we have a little time away from the screen on the school birthday, this is perhaps a great time to try one of the challenges if you have not already done so.

The Geography Department also wanted to share a few of their books you might enjoy reading.

On Thursday, World Book Day itself, we brought the joy of literature to each lesson as both staff and students used fun Teams backgrounds to pay homage to their favourite literary setting. From Hogwarts Castle (Harry Potter) to outer space (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), FHS did not disappoint. We even had some costumes! Dr Hayes as Charles Dickens was a particular highlight. A cross-curricular experience, both Geography and Art History have also shared recommended reading with us, highlighting the love of Literature across all subjects. We hope you have had a good week celebrating the power of reading.
