This week, our amazing Head of Physics, Dr Upcott, discussed time travel at Lunch n’ Learn. Thanks to him, our attendance record was broken, with around seventy STEAM enthusiasts watching the lecture!

What is time travel? What is time? Dr Upcott asked questions like these, explaining the unnatural jumping forwards or backwards through time and the manmade idea of the fourth dimension. He discussed the history of the calendar and the clock to explain how the way in which we order time was determined by people. The talk was interactive: we answered quickfire questions and stood once we thought a minute had passed, testing our perception of time. Dr Upcott used Einstein’s thought experiments to share how, technically, if you were to travel at an incredibly fast speed, time can slow down. So, can we time travel? Stephen Hawking would say not back in time, but evidence and theories suggest that time travelling to the future is very possible!
