This week we had Clare Birks from Oxford Scientific Films come to speak to us about her experience as CEO of the company, credited with ‘changing the landscape of natural history filmmaking’.
Birks discussed the all-female executive team and their experience of working in areas which are predominantly male. Her talk covered her diverse career, graduating with a degree in history at Manchester University and moving on to working on dramatic productions at Southern Star Entertainment, before finding her place at OSF. The talk was largely conversational and a multitude of questions were asked about how she prevailed through experiences of sexism, what she feels is her most rewarding production and how the company has evolved, from its first documentaries to the most recent.
Her confidence and enthusiasm was incredibly inspiring to our Sixth Form.
