Did you know that Francis Holland School remained open during the First World War?

The school has always been and remains a close-knit community with a keen spirit of camaraderie. Kindness and altruism underpinned the efforts made by staff and pupils, who, during the War, rallied around to form sewing and knitting parties. In addition, groceries were purchased for refugees and pupils even cleaned the school and their classrooms to save money for the war effort!

School Archivist Clive Bartram shared his knowledge on the topic with pupils in an assembly this week. You can watch Mr Bartram’s assembly about FHS during the First World War via YouTube, here.
