On Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st November GCSE Drama students performed in a spell binding production of Romeo and Juliet at RADA as part of the Shakespeare For Schools Festival.
They adopted a highly physical approach in this abridged version imagining that it was in the near future and Scotland had declared its independence from England which led to intense fighting between the English Capulet family and the Scottish Montague family. This small cast of just eight actors frequently had to play more than one role as well as manipulate three large, golden step ladders into different configurations in order to convey the different environments of the play. The girls focused on creating detailed characterisations and clarity in their speaking of the text. Their hard work in rehearsal led to a captivating and invigorating telling of ShakespeareÂ’s great tragedy.
The cast included: Phoebe Coleman, Annabel Sofer, Rosie Walsh, Hinnd Ban-Halim, Aisling Drummond, Sophie Irving, Amy Bennet and Isabella Kayser.
