This week, Reception and Year 1 have been learning about Diwali, the festival of light, with the help of some parent visitors. In Reception, the girls listened to a story and found out how the Mr Men and Little Miss characters were preparing to celebrate the festival. They then learnt about the Diwali traditions and different ways Diwali is celebrated around the world with the help of Lila, Diya and Serena. The girls then tried their hand at decorating Diyas and heard the story of Rama and Sita. Finally, to top off the celebrations, they all enjoyed cupcakes and listened to some Diwali songs. In Year 1, our parents visited wearing traditional clothing and Tara and Gayatri were able to make a quick change from their uniform to model this for their peers. Girls were very generously gifted colouring books, bracelets, bindis, and a beautifully decorated elephant tea candle holder. Everyone enjoyed hearing about the special dishes enjoyed at this time of year and got to try some homemade samosas.  All the girls learnt so much about the festival and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. We all want to say a huge thank you to the parents who came into the classrooms and made the Diwali celebrations so special.
