Sixth Form student Stella Wharmby has won the Economic and Social Sciences for Schools Photography Competition called ‘Changing World’.

Stella’s photo addressed the impact Alzheimers has on people and their family. She used her photography to express a feeling of cloudyness, confusion and forgetfulness as well as expressing the way personailty disappears when memories start to fade.
She has won £100 for herself and £100 for the Photography Department at Francis Holland. She has been invited to receive her prize at an award ceremony at The Chocolate Factory, where the photo will be exhibited, which she and Miss Arlington will attend.

Mrs Lucy Elphinstone, Headmistress said, “Photography was only recently introduced as an A level at FHS which makes Stella’s success even more remarkable. We place great value in our curriculum on creativity, and photography, in particular, is a platform for self expression, giving young people an opportunity to illustrate how they relate and respond to their challenging worlds.”

Congratulations Stella
