We are grateful to Joanna from the Orri clinic who offered to talk to FHS teachers and parents about when eating becomes problematic and what parents can do to support their daughters. Joanna started by summarising the different types of eating disorders. She then covered the signs and symptoms to be aware of; the importance of finding the purpose behind the behaviour and helping the child to find a healthier way of dealing with their feelings; misinformation and stereotypes; how to talk to your teenager (and remembering not to talk critically about our own bodies in front of our daughters); food culture & narratives and how to work with your daughter.
With the national increase in children experiencing disordered eating and adolescent girls being particularly vulnerable,Ā this is such an important topic for us to be as informed as possible about.Ā ThankĀ you to all parents who submitted questions.
Mrs Pittaway, Senior Deputy Head PastoralĀ
