This week, 17 Y8 pupils visited the Katherine Low Settlement to engage in some shared activities with the Elders. These trips were a complement to the Easter Eggs for Elders Initiative from the Spring Term.

On Monday, 7 students and Ms O’Neill joined with 7 elders to take part in a collaborative poetry class led by Mr Galloway. We looked at several poems about ‘school’ and remembered some of our first days of school and shared memories, before writing collaborative poems inspired by Carol Anne Duffy’s ‘In Mrs Tilscher’s Class’. It was a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational understanding, and our students learned a lot about what school was like for the Elders.

On Thursday, 10 Y8 students joined with the Elders Art Class where they learned to crochet and took part in many different art activities. Again, this was a wonderful chance for more intergenerational conversation and understanding.

My huge thanks to Ms O’Neill and Mr Wood for their respective supervision of these trips.

Mr Galloway, Head of Outreach
