We are pleased to announce that ex-Police Chief John Sutherland will be the guest speaker at this year’s Old Girls’ Lecture. The lecture will be held on Monday 23rd November and will take place via Zoom. This is a free event.

John joined the Metropolitan Police in 1992 and became a Senior Officer, serving for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2018.

During his career, he worked in a variety of roles, both in uniform and as a detective. He is an experienced Hostage & Crisis Negotiator and Premier League Football Match Commander. His last operational posting was as the Borough Commander for Southwark.

John himself has his own connections with FHS: his mum taught at the school and sisters Annie and Mary both attended.

John is the author of the Sunday Times bestseller, ‘Blue: A Memoir’, which tells the remarkable stories of his policing life and describes his battle with crippling depression. ‘Crossing the Line – lessons from life on duty’ is his second book, revealing the world beyond the cordon tape during John’s 25 years of service with the Metropolitan Police.

The lecture is free to attend, please email us to register your place or sign up on the alumni network here. The Zoom log-in details will be emailed to you nearer the time.
