Welcome back to a new academic year! While we are excited to be back to brilliant music-making for what will be a fantastic new year. However, some things never change – just like the enjoyment of the BBC Proms season.

The world’s largest classical music festival, the BBC Proms, has been hosting it’s 128th year of music concerts. Home is around the corner from the school, at the Royal Albert Hall. It has been an eclectic season with music from Berlioz to Bollywood and all in between. Whether you have or have not been able to enjoy any of the music this season, I would thoroughly recommend tuning in to the Last Night of the Proms for an incredible mix of tradition, originality and culture.

Saturday’s finale will include raucous singing and old favourites to bob along too – you will recognise something! Look out for an exciting first half, conducted by Marin Alsop and featuring the brilliant young cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

I present below a snippet from a previous BBC Proms performance from Sheku, Elgar’s wonderful Cello Concerto which he played with energy and poise well beyond his years.

The whole concert can be viewed for free on YouTube, as well as a lot of other brilliant performances from the sensational cellist.

The Last Night of The Proms will be broadcast on BBC Two or Radio 3 at 19:00 this Saturday 9th September. Enjoy!
