If you are interested in immersing yourself in a wave of 16th century culture, the Holbein exhibition at The King’s Gallery is the place to visit!

Ranging from the Burgundians to the Tudors, highlights for the Lower Sixth included spotting some familiar faces from our studies, such as the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, as well as some of the classic, beautifully depicted paintings of the young Elizabeth, Edward and Henry VIII, but also a painting that included the entire Tudor family. This was not only extremely visually impressive, but also helped us to learn more about the family dynamics of the time, together with the help of the audio tour guides which contextualised some of the main paintings. This was such a valuable visit as it allowed us to make the visual connections to some of the events that we have studied in lessons, for example the depiction of the famous ‘Field of the Cloth of Gold’, whilst we simultaneously marvelled at one of the most accomplished artists of the 16th century. Thank you so much to the History Department for organising such an enriching, brilliant trip!
