I am delighted that I will be running one of the first events in this exciting event-filled term: History Day, which is taking place on Wednesday 27th April. This will be a marvellous event for the Junior School, immersing us in history all day long, with each year group focusing on the historical period which they have been learning about in class. We hope the girls are enjoying putting their costumes together. Here is a reminder of the costume ideas for each year group:

Reception: Kings and Queens

  • King, queen, crowns, jester, jewels, sceptre, cape

Year 1: Pirates

  • Scarf, bandana, old shirt, sword, waistcoat, jewellery, black boots

Year 2: Victorians:

  • Victorian schoolgirl, suffragette, chimney sweep, housemaid, Queen Victoria

Year 3: Ancient Greece

  • Gladiator, ancient Olympic athlete, Roman warrior attire, gods, goddesses’ togas, sandals, white dresses, gold bangles

Year 4: Ancient Egypt

  • Pharaoh, Cleopatra, mummy, sphynx, white or black dresses, headpiece

Year 5: World War II

  • Evacuee (old clothes, browns and dark greens, etc.), soldier, pilot, land girls dig for victory outfit (e.g., dungarees with a bandana in hair)

Year 6: The Tudors

  • King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, Bloody Mary, crowns, large puffy long-sleeved dresses, hair worn up high, long drooping jewellery
