What a fantastic Book Week it has been this year.

Hands shot up in Monday morning’s assembly to answer our ‘first lines’ book quiz and Mr Ellen and Miss Battle sat in the Junior School hot seat for a book-themed Q and A.

Secret Readers then surprised each classroom to read a mystery book. Readers came from all over the school, from Philippe in the Dining Hall to Mrs Elphinstone herself, to remind us that we never grow out of the magic of picture books.

Hannah Shaw visited Reception and Years 1, 2 and 3 for a colourful and imaginative illustration workshop with her hilarious Unipiggle character. Our very own Emma Shevah (from the Senior School) spoke to Year 5 and 6 and pupils from St Barnabas School about her many wonderful books. Anna James of the brilliant ‘Pages & Co.’ series gave a talk to Years 4, 5 and 6.

On World Book Day itself, the costume parade gave us all an opportunity to show off our inspired fancy dress. Surely one of the best years yet! And as always, we have to thank the Friends who ran the most wonderful book exchange.

We have been so impressed how every class has asked such thoughtful questions to our visiting authors. These writers explain to us how they invent and illustrate the new worlds and characters. We have stepped in and out of books all week, reminding us just how much stories, characters and our imagination help us understand the world and enrich our lives.

During this year’s Book Week we are also supporting the independent bookshops in our locality and we encourage you all to support them.
