On Friday 8th November the Year 10 GCSE Drama students performed in an extraordinary abridged production of Julius Caesar at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
The girls adopted a Bervokian approach to Shakespeares text, with each of the 14 actors on stage throughout, incorporating 7 door frames into multiple positions in order to convey the Senate House, a telephone line, a bed chamber, Brutus conscience and a ravaged battlefield.
The clarity and commitment of the girls performance led the director of the Shakespeare for Schools festival, Ben Vardy to describe the production as Brilliant, innovative and performed with military precision, exuding moments of great tragedy. It is unusual for an all female cast to perform a play traditionally associated with men, but this was a revelation. All young women should watch this.
If you would like to see this wonderful production, it will be performed again on the 5th December in the Senior Hall at 6.30pm. Followed by the A level devised verbatim production based around regrets.
