Year 12 were given the important opportunity to attend some insights into investment offered by GAIN (Girls are Investors) UK.

UBS Insight Day run by Girls Are Investors (GAIN)

A few girls from Year 12 had the amazing opportunity of attending a series of lectures and networking event hosted by GAIN at UBS bank. This day involved a introduction to the company’s internship and apprenticeship scheme inspiring women to tap into the predominantly male finance industry. We also heard from a panel of experts in topics such as asset management and environmental connection to investments. We learnt about the diverse range of roles in Finance, including some that none of us had heard of. After the talks we were able to ask questions to others working in the company followed by a delicious catered lunch where we had the chance to communicate with other girls from different schools. This was interesting as we got to hear from people are own age and their individual experiences and thoughts on entering a male dominated field.

Pacific Asset Management Insight Day run by GAIN

Last Thursday, Julie, Mika, Skye and I had the privilege of visiting Pacific Asset Management an independent asset manager with over £5billion of assets under management. We visited their offices in the City of London and listened to talks from many different members of the company including a research analyst, an associate director in marketing, the chief investment officer and a portfolio manager. It was fascinating to hear their journeys into their roles, and what their jobs entail. It was refreshing to see the enthusiasm that people had for their jobs and the obvious rapport that they had built up as team. One of the main ideas behind this programme was to help young women to consider future careers in finance and we all found it very inspiring. During lunch, we had the opportunity to chat to many other members of the organisation, and overall it was a great experience.
