On Sunday 28th January, FHS took to the West End for a one-off performance of The Snow Queen in the prestigious Shaftesbury Theatre.
Hans Christian Andersens classic tale tells the story of a brave girl, Gerda, who goes in search of her brother, Karl who has been taken by the cold-hearted Snow Queen. This particular adaption by Winifred Palmer set to music by Grieg, brings out the fantastical elements of the original fairytale, whereby the audience are introduced to singing flowers, dancing crows and a haughty reindeer.
The chance to take to the stage in such a grand and historic venue made the opportunity to perform such a classic play even more special for the pupils involved. As soon as the curtain rose, the girls performed with an incredible energy and such joy that youd never have known that there had been a few pre-curtain nerves backstage!
Headmistress Lucy Elphinstone said:This wonderful tale of love and courage has been brought alive by this talented cast under the inspiring direction of Matthew Rowlands-Roberts and Helen Vickery. We were so excited to take it to the West End. What a triumph!
Well done to all the girls involved for such a wonderful performance. Thanks too to the staff members at both the School and the Theatre whose hard work ensured that the evening was such a success.
