We are delighted to announce that Francis Holland Junior School has been awarded a Green Flag for 2022. This is down to the hard work, determination and creativity of all the Eco-Club girls who have worked exceptionally hard all year to improve the grounds of our School and raise awareness of many different environmental issues. They have delivered assemblies, made posters, labelled the bins, made a bird box and even helped write a song! Well done to all those involved.

Please see below for our feedback:

“It’s wonderful that you have appointed such a large Eco-Committee, this shows your schools excellent commitment to both the programme and the eco-cause. It was great to see how young people were responsible for completing meeting minutes, this helps them develop new skills and take ownership of the Eco-Schools programme. We are impressed with the high number of meetings you have held this year which demonstrated your enthusiasm – well done!

It was wonderful to see how completing your Environmental Review helped your Eco-Committee to spot gaps in your school’s existing environmental activity. But equally important is that it helped you to recognise the great work that you were already doing. This helps to keep up the good activity whilst making you feel empowered to do different things. We love this!

We loved how your Eco-warriors took responsibility for their school making sure lights were turned off. It was also great to see accountability and monitoring and evaluation clearly marked in your Action Plan. Great work!

We’re really impressed at how you’ve linked environmental issues to a variety of curriculum areas. This approach looks at the big issue of climate change in a holistic way, which is the best approach to understanding and appreciating the enormity of the issue. Great work!

You’ve clearly looked externally and engaged with different projects and organisations – Wow – links with the Central Caribbean Marine Institute! This is a great example of the collaborative approach we will all need to adopt to combat climate change – your application made us feel really positive for the future.

I hope you and your Eco-Committee take great pride in your achievements.

We thought your Eco-song was brilliant! It was punchy and really creative, setting out tangible and accessible calls to action your whole school can get behind!

Congratulations to everyone for the great work you have managed to do, earning your Green Flag. You should all be very proud of your work and the application you have submitted!”
