This week the Drama Scholars from Year 7 – Year 13 took part in a puppetry workshop by Smoking Apples.
The workshop began with playing a few games to get us used to the coordination and communication involved in puppetry. Everyone adored doing these and gave us an energetic start to the workshop. We then got the puppets out and learnt about how they worked and what we needed to do to make them seem lively, we learned that you needed 3 people to work ONE puppet! We were then given some time to experiment making the puppets do different things. This was so much fun, there were puppets dancing, flying, doing gymnastics and all sorts of other fun and creative things. Afterwards we were split into groups and given two emotions to devise a story around with the puppet and it was interesting to see what others had come up with. Finally, we listened to a piece of music and had to create a story around it using two of the puppets this time. The performances were entertaining to watch, and we were given feedback to improve at the end.
All in all, the workshop was incredibly fun as well as educational and left us wanting to keep doing puppetry for the rest of the night!
