As a school community, we are all, naturally, concerned about the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and are monitoring the development of the outbreak and its potential impact on the health and wellbeing of our school community. We are keen to avoid unnecessary disruption or inconvenience, but at the same time are mindful of its continued spread and potentially serious impact.

The school has a dynamic risk assessment in place which reacts, as required, to the changing picture and follows the advice from Public Health England (PHE) and the National Health Service (NHS). This advice will be updated as required.

Guidance for current pupils, parents and staff at Francis Holland School

Remote Working Guidance for the Senior School

Remote Working Guidance for the Junior School

We advise all current pupils, parents and staff to routinely check the advice from PHE and to inform the School immediately, by emailing office@fhs-sw1.org.uk, if any of the following apply:

  • If they or anyone in their immediate family have travelled to the UK from any of the Category one or two areas listed below in the past 14 days
  • If they have had visitors or any contact with anyone who has arrived in the UK from these areas within the past 14 days

Category one countries/areas:

Hubei province in China
Iran
specific lockdown areas in Italy as designated by the Italian government
anywhere in Italy on or after 9 March
Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea)

If you, or anyone in your immediate family have returned from the Category one areas since February 19, you should self-isolate and call NHS 111 even if you do not have symptoms.

Category two countries/ areas:

Cambodia
mainland China outside of Hubei
Hong Kong
Italy (not including specific lockdown areas) before 9 March
Japan
Laos
Macau
Malaysia
Myanmar
Republic of Korea (not including Daegu or Cheongdo)
Singapore
Taiwan
Thailand
Vietnam

If you, or anyone in your immediate family have returned from the above areas since February 19th and develop symptoms, however mild, you should self-isolate and call NHS 111 immediately. You do not need to follow this advice if you have no symptoms.

Guidance for visitors to Francis Holland

Members of the school community and visitors should not come to School if they have travelled to the UK from mainland China within the past 14 days, or have been in direct contact with anyone who has. In addition, and following the update from PHE on 25 February, we are unable to welcome visitors to the School if:

  • they have travelled to the UK from any of the Category one areas listed above within the last 14 days, or been in direct contact with anyone who has;
  • they have travelled to the UK from any of the Category two areas or been in direct contact with anyone who has, and are showing symptoms of coronavirus.

We ask our school community to follow this advice and for parents to inform us of any student to whom it applies or who may have had close contact (for example a member of their household) with someone to whom it applies. We will then conduct our own assessment following the advice of Public Health England.

We appreciate that this is an unsettling time and the School will continue to review and update its precautionary measures based on advice from PHE and the NHS. The school has, in place, measures for providing continuous education through our remote learning platform, details of which have been emailed to all parents.

We are keen to return to our usual position of warmly welcoming all visitors to Francis Holland School as soon as possible and thank you for your understanding during this unsettling period.
