What can we do about climate change?

On Thursday 12th March the Sixth Form was fortunate enough to hear from Alex Jenkin, a science communicator, about the effects and ways of dealing with climate change.

Jenkin gave us all a sense of optimism by highlighting that we still have time to improve the state of our environment and minimise the effects of climate change, but pointed out that this requires communication with our world leaders. The strong relationship between leadership and climate change proposed by Jenkin encouraged us to consider how we can personally make a difference to our planet. Not only was it interesting to hear Jenkin’s personal leadership experiences, having recently participated in Homeward Bound’s programme, where a group of women travelled to Antarctica, observing its state and developing methods of making change, but Jenkin also allowed us to consider our own personal values with regard to leadership, and our individual goals concerning improving our climate. This strong link between feminism and environmental activism that Jenkin presented was fascinating and empowering, as we were not only left feeling more hopeful about the future of our planet, but we were given an insight into how each of us has the power to spark change.
