On Thursday 9th October, Mr Steve Sims, Partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP, spoke to students in Years 9-13.
This formed part of the Career Conversations, a lunchtime series that aims to introduce girls to a range of different sectors and industries.
Girls were entertained by stories of high drama from the law world. Mr Stephen Sims told the girls about high-profile cases on which both he and his firm had worked. The girls learned about the basic principles of the Law of Contracts as well as the Law of Obligations. Having studied Law at the LSE, Mr Sims trained and qualified as a solicitor, working his way up to finally becoming partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP.
The girls learned about the determination and hard work needed to become a lawyer. Mr Sims also underlined the academic rigour involved and the competitive nature of law at university level. He stressed the importance of work placements. Mr Sims also emphasised the key skills students would need to develop in order to be successful at each stage of their career.
