Today (20th September) marks the anniversary of the opening show of ‘Miss Saigon’. Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, famous for their other hit musical, ‘Les Miserables’, decided to retell Puccini’s opera, Madame Butterfly, with new musical language and changing the setting to the wake of the Vietnam War. An emotional and heart-felt musical, you can find lots of fun, comedy and partying amid serious messages about impact of conflict on those involved and their relationships.
Bui-Doi refers to the ‘left-behind’ people of war and the community that they form amid the conflict. It is a beautiful, powerful chant about humanity, set to vivid, rousing lower voice harmonies. Enjoy!
