On Thursday 11th January, our A Level English cohort embarked on an exciting two-day trip to the birthplace of the ‘Bard of Avon’: Stratford-upon-Avon! First they visited Shakespeare’s schoolroom and then enjoyed a Latin lesson in the very room where Shakespeare might have been taught! This was a perfect opportunity for them to practice their quill skills. After exploring Shakespeare’s school, they headed for a much-needed Pizza Express trip (which unfortunately did not exist in Shakespeare’s time). On Friday, they enjoyed exploring Shakespeare’s Birthplace and the Church of the Holy Trinity, fondly referred to as ‘Shakespeare’s Chapel’, as it was where he was baptised, married and buried.

Highlights of the trip from students included:
  • ‘The Fair Maid of the West’ was a huge highlight! Raucous, moving and hilarious play all in one.”
  • ”The backstage tour was very interesting. Especially seeing the ‘ozone’ cupboard for cleaning costumes quickly and safely rather than dry cleaning.”
  • “We sat on benches where Shakespeare attended school (6am-6pm 6 days a week!)”
