On Monday morning, our Year 7 Morison Verse finalists gathered to perform a selection of hand-chosen poems for an audience of friends and teachers. Our judges, Madame Lenec’h and Ms Zvobgo, were deeply impressed by the eloquence, thoughtfulness and beautiful delivery of the girls’ recitals, and had a tough task in choosing the winners. Huge congratulations to our overall winner, Cosima, and our runners up, Adeline and Michelle, all of whom excelled themselves. All three girls will participate in the national Poetry by Heart Competition.

Named after Alice Morison, the headmistress of FHS from 1908 to 1935 who was known for her love of poetry, this is one of our longest standing school traditions which we share with our little sisters at Francis Holland Prep. We were delighted to be joined by the Prep winners from each year group in Reception to Year 6, who gave impressive performances of their winning poems for Year 7 – no mean feat for girls as young as 4!

A fabulous display of oracy – well done to all our wonderful performers and thank you to the English Department.
