On Tuesday 13th September, full of excitement and anticipation, Year 4 travelled by foot along the busy and buzzing King’s Road down to The Fashion School on 6 Burnstall Street for the first of their weekly sessions this term. The aims of the sessions are to encourage creativity and individuality, as well as an awareness of what is going on in the world around us. There is a strong focus on sustainability through the use of off-cuts and upcycling.
The sessions kicked off with an introduction to the sewing machine (digital) and some sewing lingo, some of which the girls were encouraged to make up! They had such fun choosing their threads and threading their machines – down and round the roundabout, the donut, the dolphin, the robot, and through the needle hole.
After a quick demonstration of how to lower the ski foot, choose a stitch and gently encourage the fabric through with their fingertips as the needle got to work, the girls were raring to go. Every single one of them produced a straight and beautiful line of stitches in their favourite colour!
The session flew by and the girls cannot wait for the next one!
