Last week for the open classroom, the Year 6 girls performed their class assembly on the ancient civilization of Benin, a kingdom started over a thousand years ago.

The girls delivered their assembly with buckets of enthusiasm and fully immersed themselves in their conception of the Benin civilisation through collaboration, creativity, and cultural understanding. They took control of their costume design, stage directions and in some cases even wrote their own lines!

The theme was chosen to compliment the content of the girl’s history lessons and having bought the characters of Benin to life they are now able to approach their learning with a new perspective. The astonishing assembly culminated with a stunning piece of West African drumming led by Mrs Floyd.

A proud and contented group of girls then hosted mummies and daddies in the Year 6 classroom to showcase all their books from across the academic year.
