Year 9 have had an enriching and amazing TIPS week where pupils were empowered and we reinforced that they can have an impact of where the world is going through creative problem solving. On Wednesday, pupils had 2 sessions to look at where the world has been. Our History and MFL departments ran a session on World War II and explored what it was like to live in an occupied country. Pupils also had a session that explored the fallout from WW2 and were introduced to the formation and running of the UN. In the afternoon, pupils looked at where the world is now with a session on the UN sustainability goals from our Head of Sustainability. On Thursday, we introduced the FHS fusion of Model UN and Earthshot. Each group represent a country and had to design a practical, viable and appropriate solution to help their country become more sustainable. They created a pitch which asked the UN judging panel for funding for their solution.

Today, pupils had a session to develop their public speaking skills and finetuned their pitches. At midday, they had heats and the best eight pitches from the year group, had the opportunity to pitch their countries solution to our panel of esteemed judges for their ‘investment’.

We are very grateful to Sir Peter Westmacott and Mr Alistair Harris for volunteering their time to be a part of our panel of UN judges. Their life experience and expert knowledge elevated our TIPS programme.

Stay tuned to find out who won overall!
