On Thursday 12th February, the Year 9 and Year 10 Charity Reps visited the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank Warehouse to sort donations. They sorted over 1 tonne of donations (essentially, the equivalent weight of a whole Hippopotamus) and found out all about the excellent work of the charity, which supports hundreds of residents of the borough at the time of most need, every week of the year.

Pupils spoke with Steve and Phil, who explained how vital our support is to the operations of the foodbank, both in terms of donations of food and by being the model for school partnerships with the foodbank.

Distributing food is only about 50% of the work of the foodbank – the rest is providing advice and signposting clients to the support they may not know is available to them. The girls heard that many people only visit the foodbank once or twice, which is a fantastic testament to the vital support they provide – to get people back on their feet and self-sufficient.

I was delighted to be joined by Mrs Donn, Mrs Kikuchi, Mrs Hope and Mrs Haas, all members of the SSPA who are consistently brilliant supporters of the monthly donation drives. We are so grateful to be part of such a giving and hardworking community.
