Year 8 spent a fantastic day at Bhaktivedanta Manor. They participated in a Hindu ceremony, learned to wrap their own saris, partook in face and hand painting and “fed huge cows with really long tongues that like being scratched,” according to Layla.  They sat on the floor of the dining room and ate delicious vegetarian curry, rice, poori and chips, visited the gift shop and were fascinated by the cows. The girls wanted very much to try the milk sweets made from their milk, 42 of which are offered daily to the murti, including barfi.

When asked how the trip was, these were their answers…

“We really liked it. It was fun and we did lots of different activities- we learned and fed cows and went on a cow cart.” – Mia and Anastasia

Highlights?

“Feeding the cows and the talk at the beginning.” – Charlie

“The cart pulled by oxen and the ceremony with the incense.” – Melissa

“The cows were the best thing ever. Not the pooing but everything else.” – Fiona

“The ceremony because we learned a lot.” – Katie

“I learned about the goddesses in the shrine and the Hare Krishna prayer.” – Valentina.

Elodie bought a necklace and asked “Would we be able to wear this at school, seeing as it’s religious?”

“Absolutely not!” Ms Shevah replied loudly and with a smile.

“But nice try, Elodie” said Miss Hunt.
