Last night, Year 8 students gathered for a Spanish Film Night to watch Disney’s latest release Encanto, a coming-of-age animated musical set in the mountains of Colombia. Popcorn and juice cartons were dished out and CCE7 was dramatically transformed into a cinema, and as the film is in both English and Spanish, this was a fabulous way for students to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and the culture of South America. Here’s what students had to say about the evening…

I really enjoyed watching Encanto after school today. I really liked the fact that we had a chance to get together with most of the year group and to do something all together, as we have not been on a trip for a long time. The movie was a very good chance for us to hear a bit of Spanish outside of the classroom. It was also a very joyful way to start a new term and put me in a very good mood before a whole new term in front of us.

It is a Spanish movie about a girl who is the only one in her family who doesn’t have a special gift, but she ends up saving the whole family. I also loved the popcorn!
