On the February 3rd 2015, Year 8 visited an Ismaili Mosque in Kensington.

We started off the trip by going on a short coach journey. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was the architecture. Geometry was a main feature in the patterns and we discussed this with our tour guide. I then learnt that the architect had designed the building this way as the shapes were never ending. It shows that life and a journey carries on to infinity and it reflects the religion of Islam. To test this out, we all walked along the never ending patterns on the floor, following the geometry. We proved that the shapes never ended. I found this very fascinating.

Next, we walked through the building, discovering it was very modern and big! We discussed the paintings and lights and what they meant to the Islamic faith. I learnt many things I didnÂ’t know before! Lastly, we walked some more and then took off our shoes to enter the prayer room. We all sat in rows, learning that women and girls sat on a different side to men and boys. The tour guide explained that anyone of any religion could come to the Mosque and pray, and they held many events where people could get to know each other and again, anyone could come. We were then welcome to say any prayers we wanted in silence. Then sadly our trip came to an end.

I had a very good time and enjoyed it very much. I learnt many new things and loved learning more about Mosques and Islam

Thank you for taking us Father Kenny, Mr Stone, Miss Graham and Miss Arlington!
