After working hard for weeks in preparation for the 11+, the Year 6 girls were very much looking forward to their end of term trip to see The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. Excitement had been building throughout the week, as we spent an English lesson exploring the relationship between Mufasa and Scar. The girls’ ability to get into character and write beautifully from different perspectives was impressive.

When the eagerly anticipated evening arrived, our first stop was Pizza Express, where we were met with the warm, familiar smell of freshly baked dough. It was lovely to see all the girls gathered around one table, celebrating not only the successes of this term but also Nina’s birthday! The girls have really rallied together this term and the kind, supportive atmosphere was palpable as we enjoyed a meal together.

The girls explored anthropomorphism in Janni Howker’s short story, ‘The Badger on the Barge’, earlier this term. The Lion King was a spectacular display of this powerful literary technique. Each costume was beautifully ornate, blending the animal and the human, and helping the remarkably talented actors bring the story to life.

A fantastic note to end the term on, with all girls thoroughly contented, albeit rather exhausted!
