On Wednesday, Year 5 left the school bubbling with excitement.  We got into our groups and headed for Sloane Square tube station.  We squeezed onto the train and began our short journey to the Science Museum.

When we arrived, we went straight to the Shake Bar where we had our snacks before exploring the ‘Engineer your Future’ interactive gallery.  It had many electronic engineering games that we controlled on plinths with joysticks and buttons.  It was really fun!

Next, all the groups dashed to an amazing show called ‘Flash! Bang! Wallop!’.  They taught us about the fire triangle and performed many amazing, loud chemical reactions and explosions.  The presenter taught us that fireworks come in many different colours because of the metals used to make them.  We found out that copper creates a yellowish green colour, lithium makes bright red, and potassium creates a purple colour.  Anastasiya was a volunteer and she put on a large glove before holding some flash wool which our presenter lit with a flame.  The wool suddenly exploded, and we all covered our ears in shock.

After that, we hurried into the Wonderlab.  It was awesome!  There were three different slides that we could go down that created different amounts of friction.  There was also a pair of giant pulley chairs which we could pull ourselves up on and race against each other to the top.  We enjoyed spinning on a leather pillar that spun around and around.  If you were to lean in, it made you go faster and if you were to lean out, you went slower.

After lunch and a well-deserved sit down, the final activity of the day was to explore the space gallery.  There were so many rockets to learn about and there was even a piece of the moon!  On a large screen we tried to make a successful landing on Mars.  It was all great fun and we enjoyed ending our busy day listening to an explanation of our solar system while watching a mesmerising projection of the planets and moons.

We had so much fun, and we can’t wait to learn more!
