Adventuring into the great unknown (actually, just the Sixth Form building).
This week students from Year 10 had their first experience of what life is like as a Sixth Form student at FHS. Each student was buddied up with a Sixth Former and shadowed them for most of the day. We experienced the luxuries of Lower Sixth life, including wearing our own clothes, small classes, and most importantly…. the Sixth Form common room! For me, this was the first time I had ever ventured into the mysterious room that is the Sixth Form common room, and it did not disappoint! The first thing I noticed on entry was the amount of freedom the students had. Music playing, toast cooking and laughter bubbling from every corner of the sunlit room. Here I was able to talk to the girls and absorb the wisdom being shared about their experiences.
Not too long after however, it was time to get moving to our first lesson, double Maths. The classes were small and the relationship between the teachers and students was noticeably warm. Teachers and students were on the same “wavelength”, creating an overall enjoyable atmosphere. The classes themselves were very challenging as was to be expected, but also fascinating. I learnt a lot about each subject at A level. The girls shared their experiences of the various subjects and enlightened us on key issues such as coursework. I finished the day with green pesto pasta from the Sixth Form deli bar, feeling prepared and excited for the years to come at FHS. Thank you teachers, students and my buddy Emily, for make this a fabulous day!
