This week Year 1 journeyed into the past on their visit to The London Transport Museum! Here they were introduced to the ‘Doctor General’ who took them on a trip in his time machine to the 1800s and 1900s where they were able to see lots of different modes of transport from these eras.

They rode in one of the first underground electric trains, noticing that they did not have any windows.  They learnt how lots of people got lost as they didn’t know which stop to get off at and therefore new trains have windows, even if there is nothing to look at underground!  They were able to ride on lots of different vehicle types, including an Omnibus (the first bus, pulled by horses), an old fashioned Routemaster bus, a steam train, and the original electric train.  They greatly enjoyed seeing one of the first modes of transport, the Sedan chair, that we had been learning about in history lessons, and discussing how it would have felt to ride in one.  There was also great excitement to visit ‘Underground London’, a walk-through a replica of some of the tunnels in the London Underground.

A great day out was had by all!
