After a successful and enjoyable netball season for teams throughout the School and an unforgettable netball tour to South Africa for the older year groups, it was time to face our sister school, FHS Regent’s Park, in the highly anticipated annual FHS Varsity tournament. The top teams in years 7-13 headed to Regent’s Park on the afternoon of Friday 2nd December with their heads held high, ready to play the best netball and support each other. From the second our players walked onto the bus, the determination and team spirit in the air was palpable.
The senior teams were up first. Three competitive matches were played, and each girl played their very best. The U15s played some brilliant netball, confidently winning 12-2. The U16 team fought until the end, and very narrowly missed out on the win. Finally, the U18 1st VII won with an incredible score of 20-9, turning over the match with great interceptions and shooting accuracy.
Next, it was time for the junior matches. Despite the U12s only having known each other for a few months, the team played with a spectacularly high skill level and brilliant set plays throughout the match, and confidently won 11-4. The U13s narrowly missed out on a win, but they should be very proud of how hard they fought. Their defensive play was particularly impressive and they displayed characteristic FHS grit and determination in abundance. The U14 team played with great teamwork and finished the match by winning 19-8.
With Sloane Square winning 4 out of the 6 matches, we were crowned the winners for the 3rd consecutive year. The team spirit throughout the entire afternoon was unmatched, and it was so wonderful to see different years throughout the school supporting each other.
On behalf of all the Varsity participants, thank you to the Miss Allen, Miss Newsome, Miss James and Miss Caister, for organising and taking us to such a wonderful event that every FHS netball player looks forward to each year.
